Design Decisions
Aloha Welcome & Mahalo Thank You Screens: Greeted users with “Aloha, Welcome to Hawaii” at the start and “Mahalo” at the end to create a friendly, local, and culturally relevant experience that exudes "aloha spirit" and makes visitors feel valued.
Step-by-Step Form: Broke the survey into manageable steps to reduce cognitive load, making it easier for users to complete longer questionnaires.
Progress Indicator: Added a clear progress bar to show how far users are through the survey, motivating completion and providing context.
Responsive Layouts: Designed for both desktop and mobile to ensure accessibility and usability for tourists on-the-go.
Visual Clarity & Readability: Used clean typography, spacing, and consistent UI elements to make questions easy to scan and respond to quickly.
Accessible Design: Considered color contrast and touch-friendly elements to make the survey usable for a diverse audience.
Outcome / Reflection
This project, designed as part of an RFP proposal, demonstrates a complete end-to-end design process from digitizing a paper survey to high-fidelity, responsive mockups.
By simplifying the survey flow, adding step-by-step progress indicators, and incorporating culturally relevant elements like “Aloha, Welcome to Hawaii” and “Mahalo,” the design was crafted to create an engaging, user-friendly experience while meeting the RFP goals. This showcases how thoughtful UX and visual design can make data collection approachable, accessible, and enjoyable for a diverse audience.
